Strange to some is a big concern to others! What is a commonly asked question when moving to the Lake of the Ozarks? To our surprise, “Does Lake of the Ozarks have alligators?”, was one that many have searched!
Sadly enough we do not have the pleasure of seeing a trusty gator here at the lake, but we do in fact have a whole lot more to offer! From your daily siteing of deer, blue herrons, eagles, and many more. One thing that many do NOT know, is that we here at the lake are a seasonal home to the beautiful American white pelicans! THAT'S RIGHT! For a period every fall and spring the pelicans make their migration to the gulf and nest up right here in the midwest!
These birds are quite breathtaking with wing spans reaching up to 9 ft long! They may not let you get too close, but get your cameras ready. Absolutely fascinating to just watch and enjoy them in their natural habitat. They travel in flocks from a dozen sometimes thousands! Pelicans feed in shallow areas consuming minnows and small non-game fish. You can find them near creeks and back in shallow coves here at the Lake of the Ozarks! So jump in the boat and take a scenic tour!
